Update on the Amended Framework for the Naturalization of Foreign Nationals

2 minutes

Further to our article on the Amended Framework for the Naturalization of Foreign Nationals, the Ministry of Interior offers fresh insights into the amended framework in an announcement issued on 22 March 2024.

This latest announcement sheds light on key stipulations, such as the requirement to have knowledge on the history and political/social status of the Republic and applicants who may benefit from the fast-track process.

Aspiring citizens must demonstrate a solid grasp of the island's history and socio-political landscape. This means securing a certificate of success with a minimum score of 60% on the test developed by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth.

Further, the fast-track process is now reserved for top-tier talent, i.e. Directors, Key Personnel or Specialists employed at an International Business Company, or employees’ part of a similar enterprise under a permissible permit, earning a minimum monthly salary of €2,500, coupled with a university degree or proof of two years' experience in a pertinent role.

Our Perspective on the Amending Law

While naturalization is a stringent process, for those who meet the requisite criteria, the fast-track process is highly beneficial. The focus on cultural integration is a welcome change which fosters an inclusive community, benefiting both Cyprus and the foreign nationals seeking to make it their home.
